Understand the link between addiction and entrepreneurship: 3 short reads

“Work hard, play harder”; “hustle all the time"; "work while everyone else sleeps.” These phrases make for catchy social captions, but they also unveil a dark side of entrepreneurship.

The relationship between entrepreneurship and addiction is complex.

Being an entrepreneur can make you more susceptible to or amplify your addictive behaviours. For many people, the traits which make them such successful entrepreneurs are the same traits that can lead them to harmful behaviours like substance and alcohol abuse.

We’ve sourced papers by an academic, psychotherapist and entrepreneur, which introduce and examine the link between entrepreneurship and addictive behaviours.

Number One

The author points to early recognition of the signs and therapy as one way to combat entrepreneurial passion turning into a harmful addiction.

Number Two
